Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) is an International, Private, Non-Governmental, Non-Profit Humanitarian Organization. Our organisation offers assistance to populations in distress, to victims of natural or man-made disasters, to victims of armed conflict, without discrimination irrespective of race, religion, creed or political affiliation. We have been working in Nigeria facilitated by a Memorandum of Understanding between Medecins Sans Frontieres and the Federal Government of Nigeria.
The French Section are at present co-operating with the Federal Ministry of Health, and State and Local government departments of health on various health projects. Our current focus is the VVF/Emergency Obstetrics Project in Jigawa State, the Provision of Primary Health Care in Borno State, and the Nutrition Project in Katsina State with coordination office in Abuja, Nigeria.
We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Physiotherapist Supervisor
Location: Katsina
Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Patient Care: Lead and supervise the implementation of (specialized) rehabilitation interventions, ensuring quality, safety, and continuity of care:
- Conduct / Oversee patient assessments and collaborate with the team to develop and adjust treatment plans.
- Guide and support the rehabilitation team in daily patient care.
- Ensure delivered care aligns with referral criteria, protocols, ethical standards and legal requirements.
- Promote multidisciplinary, patient-centered approach with medical, paramedical, and mental health teams.
- Encourage involvement of patients’ families and caregivers in their treatment process.
- Manage patient continuity of care, from admission to discharge (based on established criteria), transitions between services, follow-up after hospitalization and referrals to external facilities when adapted.
Activity Management & Quality Improvement:
- Organize, monitor and evaluate rehabilitation activities, including data analysis to ensure alignment with project’s goal.
- Ensure the participation of rehabilitation representative in meetings, surgical/medical planning, clinical case discussions, training sessions and multidisciplinary rounds.
- Contribute to annual activity planning and budget development in collaboration with the line manager and referents.
- Support the implementation of new procedures and policies.
- Coordinate regularly with MSF Foundation and technical advisors to align goals and address challenges.
- Contribute to the implementation and development of potential research initiatives.
- Promote inclusive, non-discrimination rehabilitation services. Include people with disabilities.
- Ensure informed patient consent is obtained adaptively to situation (treatment, communication, research...)
- Represent the service externally and explore local partnership (exchange, services, patient’s orientation…).
- Ensure compliance with hygiene standards, aseptic practices.
Team Supervision & Capacity Building:
- Supervise the rehabilitation team, manage workload distribution during the week and weekend when applicable, and coordinate rotations (IPD/OPD/HBC).
- Support team members technically and organizationally.
- Organize schedules, validate leaves, and ensure care-continuity during absences.
- Identify training needs and lead knowledge-sharing sessions.
- Participate in recruitment of new team members and lead their on-boarding.
- Conduct regular individual evaluations, set objectives, and support professional development.
- Propose and implement department-level initiatives (training, exchanges, practice development).
- Facilitate team discussions and encourage service improvement proposals.
Equipment, Stock & Inventory Management:
- Ensuring availability, proper use and maintenance of rehabilitation equipment
- Monitor inventory levels and manage orders (pharmacy, logistics) based on activity needs.
- Coordinate cleaning and safety checks of equipment with MSF Bio-med.
- Report issues related to equipment loss, damage, or theft to line manager.
- Provide feedback on materials, suggest improvements or new equipment /consumables with line manager and referents.
Data Management, Reporting & Communication:
- Report incidents about patients and staff following the process set in the mission.
- Ensure accurate and up-to-date filing of patient lists, document dropouts, discharges, and functional outcomes, and guarantee proper data entry in EMR, Praxis, and Excel databases
- Maintain confidentiality and secure handling of patient data. Ensure rehabilitation records are complete, relevant, and updated with personalized treatment plans.
- Ensure data collection (clinical and activity indicators) and timely entry into registers and databases.
- Analyze service data (indicators, statistics) and provide monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to line manager and referents.
The supervisor must guarantee that patients receive optimal quality of physiotherapy care by performing and ensur-ing that the team realize adapted pediatric rehabilitation intervention:
- Assess, set objectives, treatment plan and rehabilitation procedures adapted for malnourished pediatric patients.
- Master how to approach a pediatric patient between 0 and 5 years-old.
- Propose playful exercices adapted to the patient neuromotor and medical status.
- Lead and organize group stimulation sessions.
- Support and train caregivers' ability to care for their child's development.
- Organize activities/information sessions on supporting children's development.
- Program Development & Coordination
- Support and train the supervised physiotherapists in pediatric rehabilitation in malnutrition.
- Support the medical team on neuromotor screening and prescribing physiotherapy.
- Ensure documentation is properly fullffilled by all team members.
- Maintain regular communication and meetings within project and technical referents
