Job Title: School Nurse

Location: Abuja (FCT) 

Employment Type: Full-time

 

Position Summary

  • The School Nurse is responsible for promoting and maintaining the physical, mental, and emotional health of students and staff across Stella Maris Schools.
  • The role provides first aid, manages health records, responds to medical needs, supports health education, and ensures compliance with school and national health standards.

 

Key Responsibilities

Medical Care & First Aid:

  • Provide immediate first aid and emergency care to students and staff.
  • Assess and manage minor illnesses and injuries within the school environment.
  • Determine when cases require referral to a hospital or parental pick-up.

 

Health Records & Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate, confidential health records for all students.
  • Track immunization compliance and notify parents of outstanding requirements.
  • Document all clinic visits, treatments administered, and health observations.

 

Medication Management:

  • Safely store, administer, and monitor prescribed student medications.
  • Ensure parental/doctor’s consent is documented for all medications.

 

Health Education & Awareness:

  • Conduct health talks and preventive care sessions for students and staff.
  • Support hygiene programs, wellness campaigns, and health-related school initiatives.

 

Infection Control & Safety Compliance:

  • Monitor general school health conditions and report outbreaks immediately.
  • Enforce infection-prevention protocols, including hygiene, sanitation, and isolation guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant local and national school health policies.

 

Communication & Liaison:

  • Communicate promptly with parents regarding their child’s health concerns.
  • Work closely with teachers, counsellors, and administrators on student wellbeing.
  • Provide guidance to staff on workplace health issues when necessary.

 

Support for School Operations:

  • Provide medical coverage for school events, excursions, and co-curricular activities.
  • Participate in safety drills and emergency preparedness programs.

 

Qualifications & Experience

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with a valid practicing license (NMCN).
  • Minimum of 2–3 years nursing experience, preferably in a school, pediatric, or community health setting.
  • First Aid and CPR certification (mandatory or willingness to obtain).
  • Strong observational, communication, and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to relate well with children and maintain confidentiality.
