Established in 1996, the centre provides diagnostic support through modern laboratory testing and radiological services, including clinical chemistry, hematology, microbiology, molecular diagnostics, ultrasound, ECG, and histopathology. Job Summary

The Senior Medical Laboratory Scientist is responsible for performing, supervising, and ensuring the accuracy and reliability of diagnostic laboratory testing.

The role supports high-quality patient care by maintaining quality standards, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Technical & Diagnostic Services:

Perform and supervise routine and specialized laboratory tests in areas such as:

  • Clinical chemistry
  • Hematology
  • Microbiology & parasitology
  • Immunology & serology
  • Blood banking / transfusion science
  • Ensure accurate sample handling, processing, analysis, and reporting of results.
  • Validate test results and investigate abnormal findings before release.
  • Ensure timely turnaround of laboratory results.

Quality Assurance & Compliance:

  • Implement and monitor quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with national laboratory standards and accreditation requirements.
  • Maintain proper documentation and audit-ready records.
  • Participate in internal and external quality assessment programs.

Laboratory Management & Supervision:

  • Supervise laboratory technologists and technicians.
  • Provide mentoring, coaching, and training to junior staff.
  • Assist in staff scheduling and workflow management.
  • Support performance monitoring and competency assessments.

Equipment & Inventory Management:

  • Ensure proper operation, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and coordinate repairs when necessary.
  • Monitor stock levels and support procurement of reagents and consumables.
  • Ensure proper storage and handling of laboratory supplies.

Health, Safety & Infection Control:

  • Enforce laboratory safety standards and biosafety procedures.
  • Ensure proper disposal of biological and hazardous waste.
  • Promote infection prevention and control measures.

Data Management & Reporting:

  • Maintain laboratory information systems and accurate patient records.
  • Prepare periodic reports on laboratory performance indicators.
  • Support data analysis for clinical and operational decision-making.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, or related field.
  • Professional certification and valid practicing license (as required by national regulatory body).
  • 5–6 years of progressive laboratory experience, preferably in a diagnostic centre or hospital setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in supervising laboratory operations and staff.
