West African College of Surgeons August/October 2025 Primary, Diploma in Anaesthesia, Membership & Fellowship (Final) Examinations

The West African College of Surgeons (WACS) announces the commencement of online registration for August/October 2025 examination in the Faculties of Anaesthesia, Dental Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology (ORL), Orthopaedics, Radiology and Surgery. All applicants are advised to visit the college website on www.wacscoac.org and follow the step-by-step procedure for online applications.

 

The Primary examinations will be held on Friday, 29th August, 2025, in nine (9) centres as follows:

1. Abuja, Nigeria

2 Accra, Ghana

3. Banjul, The Gambia

4. Buea, Cameroon

5 Enugu, Nigeria

6. Freetown, Sierra Leone

7. Ibadan, Nigeria

8. Kumasi, Ghana

9. Monrovia, Liberia

 

Primary examinations for ail Faculties shall be by Computer Based Test (CBT).

Further information on the venues of the CBT shall be announced later via www.wacscoac.org

 

Requirement For Primary Examinations

1. MBBS/ BDS certificate from a recognized University.

2. Full registration certificate with the medical and dental council of your country (receipt of payment for full registration, provisional registration, or annual practicing license is not acceptable).

3. Certification page (to be downloaded from the website, filled out, and submitted online)

4. Evidence of a change of name (where applicable).

 

Diploma in Anaesthesia Examination Centres

1. National Hospital /University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Abuja, Nigeria.

2. Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH), Accra, Ghana.

3. University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan, Nigeria

 

Requirement for Diploma in Anaesthesia

{Diploma in Anaesthesia multiple choice examinations shall be conducted by a computer-based test (CBT), which will be held on Friday, 17th October 2025.

1. Completion of the requisite twelve (12) months of training in anaesthesia in an accredited institution.

2. Certificate of attendance of the relevant update course (compulsory)

3. LOGBOOK / PORTFOLIO to be uploaded on the portal (no hard copy is required at the secretarial).

4. Certification page (to be downloaded from the website, filled out, and submitted online).

5. Evidence of a change of name (where applicable)

 

Membership CBT Examination (Group A)

The membership CBT examinations in the faculties of Anaesthesia, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Radiology & Surgery will be held on Friday, 29th August, 2025, in nine (9) centres as follows:

2. Accra, Ghana

3. Banjul, The Gambia

Membership CBT Examination (Group B)

The membership CBT examinations in the faculties of Dental Surgery, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics & Otorhinolaryngology will be held on Friday, 17th October 2025, in three (3) centres as follows:

1. Abuja, Nigeria

2. Accra, Ghana

3. Ibadan, Nigeria

 

Membership Clinical Examination Centres

All membership essay papers will be held on Saturday, 18th October 2025. The clinical examinations will be held between 20th - 24th October 2025, in the following centres

1. National Hospital, University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Abuja, Nigeria.

2. Korie-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH)Accra, Ghana.

3. University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan, Nigeria.

4. University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital / Enugu State University Teaching Hospital, Enugu, Nigeria.

 

Requirements For Membership Examination

a. Primary Examination statement of result of the West African College of Surgeons or its equivalent with an exemption Certificate.

b. Satisfactorily Completed Appropriate Years of Postgraduate Training as prescribed by the relevant Faculty in the Institution(s) Accredited for the purpose by the College.

c. The Original Certificate of Training (COT) Form and Authentication forms must reflect the current Examination Year, including the Training commencement and completion dates, and be uploaded to the Website. No hard copies should be submitted to the College.

d. All logbooks should be uploaded to the Portal.

e. Evidence of Registration as a Surgeon In Training (S.I.T)

f. Authentication form to be downloaded from the website, filled with proper endorsement from Fellows and the Head of Department, and uploaded on the website.

g. Certificates of attendance of relevant revision courses/updates.

h. Evidence of change of name (where applicable)

Note that the essay papers and Clinical Examinations for Membership will be held in Abuja, Accra, Enugu, and Ibadan Centres. However, the Enugu Centre will host clinical examinations in the faculty of Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Surgery only.

 

Fellowship (Final) Examination Centres

The final Fellowship CBT examinations in the faculties of Orthopaedics, Radiology & Surgery will be held on Friday, 17th October 2025.

The essay examinations will be conducted on Saturday, 31st October, 2025. The Clinicals are scheduled to be held from Monday, 20th October - Friday, 24th October,2025, in the following centres

1. National Hospital/University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Abuja, Nigeria

2. Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH)Accra, Ghana

3. University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan, Nigeria

4. Enugu State University Teaching Hospital, Enugu, Nigeria

All fellowship multiple-choice examinations shall be administered by Computer-Based Test(CBT)

 

Requirement For Fellowship (Final) Examinations

a. Evidence of passing the Membership/Part | examinations of the West African College of Surgeons.

b. Candidates are permitted to upload their letters of notification (statement of result) of passing the Membership / Part 1 Examination in lieu of the certificates.

c. Note that essay papers & clinicals examinations for the Fellowship will be held in Abuja, Accra, & Ibadan centres; however, the Enugu Centre will host the Fellowship essays, clinical examinations, and dissertation defenses for the Faculty of Obstetrics & Gynaecology only.

d. Satisfactorily completed appropriate years of postgraduate training and worked in their specialties for at least two years in the institution(s) accredited for the purpose by the College.

e. Original Certificates of Training (COT) form with dates of commencement and completion of training are to be uploaded on the website, which must reflect 2025.

f. LOGBOOK should be uploaded on the College website, except for the faculty of Dental Surgery, which requires both a soft copy and a hard copy of the logbook.

g. Certificates of attendance at the Manuscript Writing Workshop and the Health Management and Ethics workshop.

h. Authentication form to be downloaded from the website, filled with proper endorsement from Fellows and the Head of Department, and uploaded on the website.

i. Certificates of attendance of relevant revision courses/updates.

j. Evidence of change of name (where applicable)

Note: The Enugu Centre will host the Membership and Fellowship clinical examinations, including dissertation defenses, for the Faculty of Obstetrics & Gynaecology. The Faculty of Surgery will conduct only the Membership written and clinical examinations at the same centre.

Candidates who submitted dissertations in April 2025 and have been cleared by their assessors need to apply for October 2025, having fulfilled all other requirements. Any candidate whose dissertation is rejected will have to apply for the April 2026 examination. An exception to this rule is candidates who were referred to the April 2025 fellowship examination in dissertations, who are expected to submit their corrected dissertations before the close of the application.

 

Post Fellowship Certificates

1. Assisted Reproductive Technology

2. Urogynaecology  

3. Gynaecological Endoscopy.  

This applies to Fellows who have successfully completed the 1-year training program and have been approved by the training coordinator to sit for the examination.

 

Examination Fees

1. Primary Examination S150 or N90,000 or GHC 1,800

2. Diploma in Anaesthesia (DA) S325 or N195,000 or GHC 3,900

3. Membership examination S425 or N255,000 or GHC 5,100

4. Fellowship (Final) examination S625 or N375,000 or GHC 7,500

5. Post Fellowship examination S750 or N450,000 or GHC 9,000

 

Mode of Payments

  • Payment for all aspects of the examinations should be made online either in Naira, Dollars (US), or Ghanaian Cedis (GHA). Details of all approved currencies can be accessed on the College Portal.
  • No payment Teller shall be accepted by the College. Any candidate who does not follow this instruction shall be disqualified and the examination fee forfeited.
  • Determination of examination after submission of the application or refund of examination fees after payment would not be entertained.

 

Closing Date

1. Submission of application closes on Thursday, 31st July 2025.

2. ALL FELLOWSHIP CANDIDATES that plan to sit for the APRIL 2026 final Fellowship examinations are to submit dissertations (all faculties) and casebooks (O&G only), as well as their choice of examination centres. latest on Wednesday, 31st October 2025 via the designated faculty-based email addresses below.

(The subject should read: Surname with other Initials and DISSERTATION & PROPOSAL FOR APRIL 2026 EXAMS, for example: DR. DAKUM EMILOKAN EJIOTOR: DISSERTATION & PROPOSAL (APRIL 2026) No hard copy of Dissertation, Proposal & Casebook will be accepted by the College.

 

General Information

  • Candidates are advised to carefully populate appropriate fields meant for surname and other names as you want them to appear on your certificate; any error that arises from this may lead to the candidate” disqualification.
  • Courier-enabled address should be written in place of the contact Address.
  • The College website is the only veritable medium by which the eligible candidates' list and approved Timetable will be published. Therefore, candidates should check the College website for the approved list of eligible candidates and the examination timetable a month before the examination, and should not solely rely on the automated approval slip received.
  • The College reserves the right to change a candidate's examination venue at any time it deems necessary.
  • All applications are expected to be executed online; NO hard copy at any document should be submitted to the college.
  • Note on deferment: Deferment of examination after submission of the application or refund of examination fees after payment would not be entertained.
  • Candidates are to upload all relevant documents after payment has been made on the portal and click on the ‘submit’ button before their applications can be validated.
