Communique Issued At The End Of The Meeting Of The  Committee Of Pro-Chancellors Of Nigerian Federal Universities Held In Abuja On Tuesday, 26th November, 2013
At the meeting of the Committee of Pro-Chancellors of Nigerian Federal Universities which took place today, Tuesday 26th November, 2013, a number of wide-ranging issues affecting the Nigerian University system, including the lingering strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) were discussed.
In this regard, the Committee noted all the efforts by the Federal Government to address the major issues involved in the strike action including the bold and supportive intervention by Mr. President himself in the matter.
Furthermore, the Committee noted with satisfaction the outcome of the referendum conducted in all the branches of ASUU nation-wide which voted 60:40 in favour of the suspension of the on-goingASUU strike.
Consequently, based on the outcome of this democratic exercise by the ASUU and the negative impact the strike has had 'on the University 'System, the students, parents and the nation at large, the Committee of Pro-Chancellors unanimously agreed that all Federal Universities should re-open their Universities immediately in the overall interest of all concerned. Vice-Chancellors are hereby directed to comply with the Committee's decision.
The Committee calls for the understanding of ASUU and indeed all staff of the various Federal Universities in this matter.
