Kogi State government has recorded a major feat in its efforts towards effective health care delivery in the state.
The state owned Specialist Hospital, Lokoja was recently granted accreditation to train specialist-doctors in family medicine by the two regulatory institutions in the country namely the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria and the West African College of Physicians.
This was contained in a press statement signed by the chief press secretary to Kogi State governor, Mr Richard Elesho in Lokoja.
The statement added that the revelation was made by the chief medical director of the hospital, Dr Paul Amodu during a briefing with the state governor, Capt. Idris Wada on current developments in the hospital.
A letter signed by acting, college registrar of National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, Dr S.S Sule and addressed to the Specialist Hospital says “that the department be granted full accreditation for 5 years to train 8 junior and 4 senior students”.
Amodu who revealed that the hospital is fully computerised and well equipped said its training of family physicians would enhance health care service delivery in the state.
He commended the state governor for the enormous funding and political support his administration has given the hospital.
