The MLSCN guideline for registration as mentors for medical laboratories in Nigeria is a guide to the integrity of how to become a mentor for medical laboratories in Nigeria.
Mentoring involves not only career guidance and support, but also personal, psychological and social aspect for continuous quality improvement (CQI) of the services rendered. CQI is a comprehensive management philosophy and attitude of analyzing laboratory capabilities and processes and improving them repeatedly to achieve the objectives of customer satisfaction. The need for formal mentor training and effective mentoring is invaluable as a critical component in the success of any professionalism with medical laboratory practice inclusive.
The following speaks to the requirement for any organization seeking to provide the services of mentoring medical laboratories to attain National and International Accreditation on behalf of Council:
1. The firm/consultant should be registered with MLSCN
2. The consultant should be a practicing Medical Laboratory Scientist in good standing with a current practicing license of Council or a foreign practitioner with recognized equivalent licensure.
3. The consultant should be a certified mentor by the MLSCN and or other recognized body.
4. The consultant should have a minimum of 5yrs on the job experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist and trained in Quality Management System (QMS) and accreditation preparedness
5. A knowledge of ISO 15189, ISO 9001,ISO 17025 standards and CLSI QMS is highly necessary
6. The consultant should have been involved in mentoring a laboratory or mentoring program for at least 2 years
7. The firm / company should be registered with Corporate Affairs Commission for mentoring service with up to date tax clearance certificate.
NOTE: The following will be an added advantage:
1. Possession of MLSCN, ASLM, CLSI, SLMTA or any other ILAC recognized certificate in Medical Laboratory Auditing
2. Knowledge of Emotional Intelligence (EI) and Leadership qualities.
3. Proficiency in Microsoft office software use and application.
