National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) Public Announcement

The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), desirous of re-positioning itself and all its principal Actors has decided to re-struture its insurance arrangements for better service delivery
 
Against this back drop, the following insurance consortiums have been re-organised/ re-constituted
 
1. Advance payment guarantee bond insurance for health maintenance organizations (HMOs) with NHIS lives
2. Professional indemnity insurance for all accredited healthcare facilites (HCFs)
3. Fidelity Guaranty Insurance for ALL ACCREDITED HMOs; and 
4. Professional Indemnity Insurance for the underwriting department of all accrdited HMOs
 
All the arrangements above are IN ACCORDANCE WITH BOTH THE NHIS ACT AND THE NHIS OPERATIONAL GUIDELINES (SEE SECTIONS 6 (B) AND 45 OF THE NHIS ACT. SEE ALSO SECTION 2.14.3.4, 2.19.3 AND 2.19.4 OF THE NHIS OPERATIONAL GUIDELINES) AND ARE THEREFORE MANDATORY TO ALL CONCERNED
 
Note that all prescribed insurances MUST BE TAKEN FROM NHIS ACCREDITED INSURANCE COMPANIES
 
To this end, various consortiums of reputable underwriters and Brokers have been appointed to provide these servivces.

THE FIDELITY GUARANTEE INSURANCE AND THE PROFESSIONAL INDEMNITY INSURANCE ARE COMPULSORY REQUIRMENTS FOR THE ACCREDITATION/RE-ACCREDITATION OF ALL HMOs
 
For the avoidance of doubt, January 1st 2017 has been fixed as the dateline for all health care facilites to comply with their insurance requirement in both general and specialty practises as all defaulters risk losing their accreditation status for non compliance
