NiMSA is the umbrella body of over 75,000 medical students in Nigeria. NiMSA is affiliated to the International Federation of Medical Students’ Association (IFMSA) and is the student arm of Nigerian Medical Association (NMA).
NiMSA represents the thoughts and ideas of future healthcare professionals who have united to lead initiatives that impact positively in the society with the dream of attaining effective healthcare that will ensure hope of a better living.
NiMSA is a non-governmental organization, the only official representative body of all the medical students studying in recognized Nigerian medical schools irrespective of nationalities. We ensure that the voice of the Nigerian medical students is heard in policy formation. We expose our members to clinical and research exchange at national, regional and international levels. We equally train and empower medical students with leadership, advocacy and lobbying skills required in the very demanding world of today through conferences, trainings, workshops both locally and internationally.
STANDING COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC HEALTH (SCOPH)
The Standing Committee on Public Health (SCOPH) is the arm of NiMSA saddled with the responsibility of organizing public health Campaigns.
The Standing Committee on Public Health (SCOPH) brings together medical students from all over the world to learn, build skills, cooperate, explore and share ideas when it comes to addressing all issues related to public health, including global health issues, health policies, health promotion and education, activities.
The standing committee on public health (SCOPH), Nigeria Medical Students Association is set to join the campaign against tuberculosis on 24th of march 2015 tagged “STOP TB CAMPAIGN 2015” With the following activities:
âš« An indoor lectureship to educate medical, Pharmacy and nursing students on the symptoms of tuberculosis, its prevention, treatment and cure. âš« Debate among medical students from different schools.
âš« Join public health physicians in a DOTS centre to administer anti-tuberculosis drugs.
âš« A prison outreach on methods of transmission, prevention and cure of tuberculosis.
âš« Public campaign on need for immunization emphasis being on BCG vaccine.
