Re: On The Proposed NCR Bill Before The National Assembly

Posted on: Sat 20-05-2017

It was to the greatest surprise of various professionals that a member of the NMA seems to have been attacking well meaning Healthcare providers in Nigeria under the guise of erroneously defending a daughter profession whose value system has greatly diminished due to the numerous presence of block-headed demented fellows like himself who perennially infiltrates the once noble profession of Medicine and Surgery, having been with them in the same classroom attending the same lectures delivered by same lecturers, same exams etc in the College of healthsciences from our 1st year in the university uptil 3rd and 4th year when most of us continue with our various departments.

I wouldn't wish to go so low to always reply the anencephalic misunderstood individual but for the proper guidance of the general public it becomes appropriate to put the records straight on the ill-conceived psychotic bill sent to the national assembly for the "Establishment of a National Council on Radiology and Radiation Medicine"(NCR).

The freedom of speech/access to social media should not be taken as a free ride to sprout as much as this young lad has while not understanding the meaning of a profession called Radiology (a specialty in Medicine and Surgery) an independent profession neither does he understand the content of the proposed bill which was an exact duplicate of the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria's (RRBN) act as legal actions will definitely be held on plagiarism of this act by proponders of NCR.

The writer claims in his article that Radiologists spend millions of years to achieve their specialization, maybe he is yet to understand that what they get in his chosen field is only a fellowship (just like a postgraduate diploma) while Radiographers go a whole lot further to get his/her MSc, PhD and so on. Therefore it is not how far but HOW WELL?.

OPINION: On The Proposed NCR Bill Before The National Assembly

May i state it categorically clear that the bill is a failed attempt by some lazy and idle doctors to infiltrate and subjugate other independent healthcare professions such as Medical Radiography, Biomedical Engineering, Medical Physics, etc, having been graduating thousands of their colleagues yearly with no place to work. It is ideal to say that instead of accepting to establish a duplicate council such as NCR which wishes to do exactly the works of the RRBN  does by regulating the training of Professional radiographers as contained in their Part 1(f) of the bill and forcefully alienating the already existing councils for the selfish gains of a few in this economic crisis facing the country, the government should channel their resources into strenghtening the already existing professional boards/councils such as RRBN(for radiographers), MLSCN( for Medical Laboratory Sciences) PCN (for Pharmacists) etc, to wade off quackery in these health professions and equipping them to clamp down on any institution/clinic/ hospital training and illegally licensing quacks for cheap labor which these individuals and their cohorts are interested in.

Instead of their colleagues to work on upgrading themselves in academics, research and clinical practice to curb medical tourism abroad they are hell bent on infiltrating other healthcare professions and spreading their tentacles. There have been several cases of professional negligence/lackluster attitude of medical doctors which led to the death of several Nigerians as can be seen on the web pages attached: http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/219289-investigation-nigerian-hospital-medical-negligence-causes-death-women-babies.html, http://www.radianthealthmag.com/health-wellness/medical-negligence-in-nigeria/, down to the most recent one being the death of one Mrs Chisom Anekwe who came for her child delivery in a private hospital in Lagos State(which has recently drawn public outcry and condemnations against the lackadaisical attitude of Nigerian Medical Doctors who claim to be gods) and also the Nigerian "SENIOR" surgeon who removed the right Ovary of a woman claiming it resembles the human appendix!.

We therefore call on the general public, well meaning Nigerians to avert the impending crisis that may arise from the passage of an unpleasant bill into law by informing the relevant authorities to withdraw this bill. We also call on our dear public nuisance who calls himself a medical practitioner who wishes to pacify his masters having overstayed his welcome without any success in his academic programme to regain his senses, unless there will be a request for an urgent contrast enhanced brain CT scan for him or rather he should deviate to herbal medicine where his calling lay and where he will keep deceiving himself and some guillible people of his kind with his nauseating statements. We as busy and hardworking healthcare professionals shall do our best to ignore his psychotic rants as they seem solely to be the outpourings from a frustrated progeric malnourished fellow.

Thank You for your usual co-operation.

Sincerely Yours,
Oparaji F. U  MARN.
Senior Medical Radiographer.
