The Ogun State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Olaokun Soyinka, on Tuesday, condemned the involvement of unqualified persons in medical and pharmaceutical practices.

Soyinka expressed his concern in Abeokuta while receiving members of the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria, led by the Registrar, Mrs. Gloria Abumere.

He disclosed that efforts were being made to curb the activities of illegal operators, as the health ministry had obtained relevant legal advice from the justice ministry concerning the issue.

“We need to constantly regulate and monitor their activities,” Soyinka said.

He assured that efforts would be redoubled to enhance improved and qualitative health care delivery in the state.

Soyinka enjoined the PCN to partner with the state government and collaborate in producing the best workforce in order to achieve the goal.

In her response, Abumere commended the state government for appointing a pharmacist as one of the newly appointed permanent secretaries, saying it would go a long way in improving the practice of the profession.
