Abia State Executive Council (ASEC) has set a December deadline for the Ministry of Health to renovate and retrofit 200 existing primary health centres across the state.

State’s Information Commissioner, Prince Okey Kanu told The Guardian that the directive would be executed in partnership with the Primary Healthcare Development Agency. He said the project, which will commence in September for the benefit of the 184 wards targets 100 days for its completion.

Kanu said that the state has recorded 13 suspected cases of Monkey Pox in IsialaNgwa, comprising one confirmed case, nine certified negative, and three others not infected.

On the alleged Cholera outbreak in the state, the Special Adviser to the state Governor on Health, Dr Ngozi Azodo, said the state had two cases of Cholera, adding that various isolation centres are being strengthened to contain any outbreak.

Azodo further said that there is synergy between the ministries of health, environment, and public utilities, while a steering committee has been set up on infectious disease.

She enjoined the citizens to maintain good personal hygiene, and distance themselves from people with suspected Monkey Pox infection, including animals, saying that animals are Monkey Pox Carriers.”
