The 1991 class of the Sasa Community High School Old Students Association, in collaboration with a medical team from Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), has organised a medical outreach to provide essential health services to over 200 residents of the community.

The services included blood pressure checks, blood sugar level testing, Hepatitis B screening, malaria testing, as well as medications and vaccinations.

Representing the association’s president, Akeem Shonde, at the event yesterday in Lagos, the vice president, Adebayo Popoola, explained that the free medical outreach was a way to give back to the community that nurtured them academically.

According to him, many people are unaware they are living with undiagnosed health issues, which is why the association decided to bring health services directly to them.

He said that through this outreach, the association hopes to foster greater community well-being and encourage preventive healthcare while showing gratitude to the community that supported their growth.

“Since we graduated from Sasa Community High School in 1991, we have been looking for ways to give back. This outreach is our way of supporting the people and the place we grew up in and helping our old school community benefit as well,” he said.

The financial secretary, MopelolaFadeyi, highlighted the range of services provided, including screenings for Hepatitis B, with plans to refer patients for follow-up vaccination doses.

She said the initiative was one of the association’s commitments to giving back to the community.

A nurse from the LASUTH medical team, OshokoyinDamola, observed the prevalence of high blood pressure among attendees.

She stressed the need to re-emphasise and create more awareness about hypertension, noting that stress significantly contributes to elevated blood pressure levels.
