His Excellency,

The Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State,

Governors’ Office,

Uyo.

Through:

The Head of Civil Service,

Governors’ Office,

Your Excellency,

RESUMPTION OF SUSPENDED JOHESU STATEWIDE STRIKE OF TUESDAY JULY 23, 2019 – FOURTEEN (14) DAYS ULTIMATUM

The Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) Akwa Ibom State Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday June 10, 2020 deliberated exhaustively on some fundamental problems affecting her members including the health care development in Akwa Ibom state. The following resolutions were reached:

  1. The Unions (JOHESU) applaud His Excellency, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State for all his efforts toward the management and containment of COVID-19 outbreak in Akwa Ibom State.
  2. The Unions condemn in its entirety the government’s insensitivity to the plight of health workers in the state who are the least paid health workers in the country, by refusing to implement the consolidated health salary structure (CONHESS) in the state.
  3. We call on Akwa Ibom State government to release without any further delay the circular for the implementation of the already agreed 80% of the National Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) by the sub-committee on the implementation of CONHESS in Akwa Ibom State since on Thursday February 20, 2020.
  4. The present hazard allowance for members of JOHESU in Akwa Ibom State is a paltry sum of three thousand five hundred naira (3,500) monthly, which is also the least in Nigeria. We therefore demand the review of the hazard allowance to h minimum of 50% of our basic salary.
  5. We call on the government to immediately recruit more health workers into the health sector of the state because of the shortfall occasioned by retirement, brain-drain and death.
  6. The Unions therefore demand the immediate reinstatement of the sacked 720 Local Government workers which majority were health workers.

In conclusion, Johesu Akwa Ibom State is left with no alternative whatsoever than to give the Akwa Ibom State Government Fifteen day (15) ultimatum beginning from Monday 15th June 2020 to accede to these legitimate demands, failure which an indefinite industrial action (strike) will commence on 12:01am on Tuesday 30th June 2020.

Yours in the struggle for workers emancipation.
