Wadata Relief Care Initiative (WRCI) is a non-governmental, non-profit, non-political, and humanitarian and Developmental organization that strives for a just world that advances children's rights and equality for girls and young people in Nigeria by promoting equitable governance and human rights. Established in 2018. WRCI started operations in 2019 and registered as a nonprofit making organization with Corporate Affairs Commission in 2023.

In July 2009 the Boko haram insurgence began in the Northeast, and in 2011 the bandit Conflict in the Northwest escalated, the Federal Government announced interventions that affected the lives of the general population. To fight the insurgence/banditry to reduce its impact on the population, Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs) in Nigeria collaborated to fight the insurgence's menace. In 2018, WRCI launched activities to provide succour to people affected by the conflict and violence.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

About the Project

 

  • This project, “Strengthening Community Resilience against Extremism and Violent Extremism through Rehabilitation and Reintegration of Women and Youth Associated with Violent Extremism” will be implemented in Bakori Local Government Area (LGA) of Katsina State, Northwest Nigeria.
  • It aims to address the multifaceted challenges posed by armed groups, including bandits and the Lakurawa insurgents, which have severely impacted local communities through violence, displacement, and disruption of livelihoods.
  • The initiative focuses on rehabilitating and reintegrating women and youth affected by or associated with violent extremism, while simultaneously strengthening the resilience of the broader community.
  • A key component of the intervention is to provide mental health and psychosocial support to affected individuals and communities to enhance their resilience and well-being.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement MHPSS activities tailored to the needs of conflict-affected populations, including individuals displaced or traumatized by violence.
  • Conduct psychosocial assessments and identify vulnerable individuals or groups requiring specialized support.
  • Provide direct psychosocial support and mental health counseling, either individually or in group settings.
  • Design and facilitate awareness-raising and community sensitization sessions on mental health, stress management, and coping strategies.
  • Collaborate with local health providers, traditional healers, and community leaders to strengthen referral pathways and ensure comprehensive care.
  • Train project staff, volunteers, and community members on basic MHPSS principles and psychological first aid.
  • Monitor and evaluate MHPSS activities to assess impact and adapt interventions as needed.
  • Advocate for the integration of mental health and psychosocial considerations into broader project activities and community initiatives.
  • Ensure confidentiality, ethical standards, and cultural sensitivity in all MHPSS interventions.

Qualifications and Experience

  • MSc Degree in Clinical Psychology, Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Mental Health, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience delivering MHPSS services in humanitarian, conflict-affected, or fragile settings.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care, psychological first aid, and community-based psychosocial support.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations, including displaced persons and survivors of violence.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work sensitively with diverse cultural and social groups.
  • Proficient in English; knowledge of Hausa or other local languages is a plus.
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain professional boundaries.
