NHEA: Honouring Excellence to Inspire Innovation and Leadership in Nigeria’s Healthcare

Nigeria’s health sector is set to witness a celebration of excellence, dedication, and transformative impact as the stage is prepared for the 11th edition of the Nigerian Healthcare Excellence Awards (NHEA). Scheduled for June 27, 2025, at the prestigious Eko Hotel & Suites in Lagos, the event promises not only to recognise outstanding individuals and institutions but also to serve as a rallying call for innovation, leadership, and renewed commitment to better health outcomes across the country.

Stakeholders have expressed optimism that national honours and public recognition can inspire a ripple effect—motivating others within the sector to strive for excellence and push the boundaries of what is possible in healthcare delivery. For many, the NHEA represents more than an awards night; it is a platform to spotlight those who are making a tangible difference in the lives of Nigerians and to encourage the spread of best practices across the health system.

This year’s ceremony will bring together notable dignitaries, including the Governors of Lagos and Katsina states, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Dr. Dikko Umar Radda, as well as the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako. Their presence underscores the national importance attached to recognising and rewarding healthcare achievements.

Among the institutions set to be honoured is Afrimedical Manufacturing and Supplies Limited, commended for strengthening Nigeria’s self-reliance through local syringe production—an effort that reduces dependence on medical imports and enhances national health security. Similarly, ABUAD Multisystem Hospital will be recognised for its pioneering work in delivering patient-centred, high-quality care that sets a benchmark for others in the sector.

The awards will also shine a light on impactful community-focused initiatives. One such example is the Jumejilo Multi-Birth Assistance Programme (JMAP), spearheaded by the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu. This initiative has provided critical support to mothers of multiple births, helping to address a unique maternal and child health challenge with compassion and innovation.

For Dr. Wale Alabi, NHEA Project Director, the 2025 edition represents more than just a celebration of individual or organisational achievements. It symbolises a broader movement towards system-wide transformation in Nigeria’s healthcare landscape. “What we are celebrating goes beyond individual accolades. It is a reflection of progress—real impact in healthcare access, quality, and innovation,” he remarked.

Indeed, as the healthcare community gathers to applaud these trailblazers, the NHEA aims to inspire a future where excellence becomes the norm, and where every recognition plants a seed for further innovation, leadership, and positive change. Through these honours, the message is clear: Nigeria’s path to stronger health systems and better outcomes lies in recognising and scaling up what works.
