Press Release from the Office of the President of Dietitians Association of Nigeria (DAN)

Posted on: Tue 28-10-2025

We want to use this medium to appreciate the National Assembly through the instrumentality of the Senate in passing the Dietitians Council of Nigeria Bill. This Bill is long overdue and all the Dietitians in Nigeria appreciate the Senate President and members of the Senate Committee on Health for the due diligence applied during the process of passing the bill.

The bill, which establishes a national council for the regulation of dietetics practice in Nigeria, is a major step forward in ensuring the highest standards of care and practice in the country. The council will provide a framework for professional oversight, accountability, and the protection of public health by ensuring that dietetics practitioners in Nigeria adhere to established guidelines, competencies, and ethical standards. It will consolidate the proposed merger of Dietitians Association of Nigeria(DAN) & Institute of Dietetics in Nigeria (IDN) under one umbrella for all Dietitians in Nigeria with the name “Association of Nigerian Dietitians” (AND).

It is our sincere expectation and desire that His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR will expeditiously give assent to the bill in no distant time, so that the issues of malnutrition and diet related non-communicable diseases will be adequately attended to in order to achieve adequate nutrition, food security and maintain quality nutrition service delivery to the nation. Adequate nutrition which is one of the strong mantra of Mr President would be successfully achieved and delivered to all Nigerians in the spirit of the renewed hope agenda.

Our appreciation will not be complete without acknowledging the role of the Federal Ministry of Health our supervisory Ministry for her critical role through the Honourable Ministers of health in making sure that this bill succeeds at the National Assembly.

Finally, we want to salute the courage and the unflinching support of all dietitians in Nigeria within and in diaspora for their overwhelming moral and financial support during the process of getting this bill to this stage. The bill will ensure that dietitians are not only recognized as essential healthcare  professionals but also held to rigorous standards that protect the public interest.

Thank you! Solidarity! Forever!!

Yours Sincerely
