Project Officer - Health Care in Danger (HCID) (Grade B2- Fixed-term 6months Contract) at ICRC

The International Committee of the Red Cross - ICRC- (www.icrc.org) is an independent humanitarian organisation, neutral and impartial. BIU Office is looking for a suitable candidate to fill the vacancy below.

Under the supervision of the BIU Health Team Leader, the incumbent will be part of the team implementing Health and Nutrition activities in an assigned Area of Responsibility (AoR). S/he will be the focal point for all matters related to the ICRC-supported nutrition component in the Primary Health Care program in higher AoR. This covers the implementation of Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) and Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) activities at the facility and community levels. The overall goal will be to set up and operationalize Outpatient Therapeutic Program (OTP) centres and stabilisation Centres (SC), form and activate IYCF support groups, strengthen coordination between sectors (intra) and other actors (inter) and ensure scale-up and integration of nutrition activities in mainstream health and EcoSec activities in the assigned AoR.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Mobilization and support to Nigerian Red Cross Society at the HQs and grassroots level with select branches for HCiD awareness and data gathering.
  • Support to ICRC field offices in following up on elements of the HCiD programme
  • Policy and Humanitarian Diplomacy by engaging with national-level stakeholders in developing laws and policies linked to HCiD
  • Evidence Gathering of HCiD Incidents
  • Carry out sensitization sessions on HCD topics for select audiences.

Education and Experience Required

  • University degree in social sciences, law, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in a comparable role with a reputed humanitarian organization.
  • Strong knowledge of Protection issues and multi-disciplinary aspects of the HCiD is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of applicable legal and policy frameworks linked to HCiID
  • Experience in engaging with medical, security, political, humanitarian, and civil society actors.
  • Advanced knowledge of written and spoken English, Hausa and other regional languages of North-East Nigeria desirable
  • Applicants should have a Nigerian nationality or hold a working permit.
