The Attorney General of the Federation and

Minister of Justice, Federal Ministry of Justice,

Maitama

Abuja.

THE MENACE OF DRUGS CONSUMPTIONS AND THE NEED FOR THE ENACTMENT OF WHISTLE BLOWER POLICY ON NARCOTICS AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE

In recent times, reports have steadily linked terrorism, banditry, violent crimes and youth restiveness across the country and the sub-region to the increasing number of drugs abuse among the youth and high class members of the society.

There is a compelling need, therefore, to tackle this menace not only among the younger elements who are Nigeria’s future leaders, but also the elite consumers from destroying our great nation.

It is important that you take a second look at the _Magu Magu_ high rate consumptions of narcotics by highly placed government officials.

Most Nigerians believe and genuinely too, that if the high and mighty individuals involved in the illicit acts are subjected to test and ultimately prosecuted would serve as deterrent to a lot of young people to desist from substance abuse.

If Urines an blood tests results by reputable and uncompromising laboratories be conduced on these highly-placed individuals, the results will be shocking.

And doing so would clearly show that President Buhari led government has zero tolerance on narcotics and illicit drugs.

Drug users in position of authority and leadership should come out clean, supported and rehabilitated. We must start from somewhere and the time is now.

It is a common knowledge that unless and until you invoke the powers of your office against officials concerned, they will continue to use their positions to obstruct justice and escape the mandatory rehabilitation programme being meted out to substance abusers.

It is on records that President Muhammadu Buhari during his tenure as Military Head of State had dealt with drug barons, traffickers and consumers alike.

It is imperative, therefore, for you to give matching orders to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency to liaise with the General Marwa led Presidential Committee in order to move against government functionaries perpetrating the acts of narcotics consumptions.

The dangers caused by narcotics consumptions syndrome are enormous, it exposes our youth and adults to various vices and criminal conducts with high measures o consequences on the society. In realizations of the dangers posed by narcotics consumptions in our society, we urge you to promulgate a whistle-blower roadmap on narcotics consumptions that is becoming prevalent among the younger generation and some highly placed government functionaries in the country.

Lastly, Transparency Centre Network is a Civil Society organization committed to the eradications of corruptions and other sundry societal ills in our society and protection of human rights, democracy, accountability and transparency.

Please be assured of our highest esteem and considerations.

Signed:

Musa Abdulahi
