Weapon Contamination Field Officer (WeC FO) (Grade B2) at ICRC

The International Committee of the Red Cross ~ ICRC- (www.icrc.org) is an independent humanitarian organization, neutral and impartial. Mubi Sub Delegation is looking for a suitable candidate to fill the vacancy below.

Under the supervision and technical guidance of the Deputy Head of Sub Delegation and Weapon Contamination Field Manager, the Weapon Contamination Field Officer (WeC FO) will ensure that WeC activities facilitate and complement other aspects of ICRC emergency programs such as Retief (but not exclusively) distributions, Economic support activities, water provision, health services, and dead body management in his/her Area of Responsibility (AoR). The WeC FO wilt Plan WeC Risk Awareness and Safer Behavior (RASB) activities according to the RASB guideline and the community's needs and other activities such as gathering information regarding the Explosive Ordnance situation, incidents, socio-economic conditions, level of WeC Risk awareness, etc. The WeC FO works, coordinates, and mobilizes with various Mine action actors in the field.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure that WeC activities facilitate and complement other aspects of ICRC emergency programs such as relief distributions, livestock support activities, water provision, health services dead body management, etc. in hither AoR, under the direction of the DHoSD or WeC Field Manager.
  • In coordination with the WeC Field Manager, ensure, that all WeC activities and plans are implemented, monitored, and evaluated as required in his/her AoR.
  • Plan WeC Risk Awareness activities according to the RASB guideline and the community's needs. This will be done per the overall planning of the Sub-Delegation and the WeC Field Manager.
  • Accompany field visits, and deliver Risk Awareness to the beneficiaries where applicable during the visit, in coordination
  • with other departments (WatHab, EcoSeC, Health, etc.).
  • Be responsible for following up, monitoring, and reporting on all tasks assigned to the NRCS teams and conducted on his/her site or AoR.
  • Develop and maintain contacts with the authorities at the local level.
  • Support in the development and implementation of integrated monitoring/mapping and evaluation tools, develop and improve strategy, approach, and methodology.
  • Provide timely, clear, and concise reporting per the established reporting system and formats, maintaining and making available documentation as specified by the international SOPs and requirements, especially related to Risk Awareness Activities.
  • Perform any other tasks as directed by the WeC Field Manager or DHoSD.

Education and Experience Required

  • Relevant degree from a university
  • Minimum of 3-5 years overall professional experience in a related field.
  • Work experience in the Humanitarian Mine Action Sector is an asset.
  • Academically or professionally proficient in a Risk Awareness-related subject.
  • Proven experience in data compilation and analysis, capacity building, reporting, and external representation.
  • Previous experience with the ICRC or other humanitarian agencies desired.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English and Hausa.

  • Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions with limited supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a proven ability to work within a multicultural team and establish effective working
  • relationships both internally and externally.
