COMMUNIQUE ISSUED BY ASSOCIATION OF RADIOGRAPHERS OF NIGERIA, ANAMBRA STATE CHAPTER AT THE END OF THE 13TH AUGUST 2017 GENERAL MEETING HELD IN NNEWI, ANAMBRA STATE.
Introduction:
The Association of Radiographers of Nigeria, Anambra State chapter, held her bi-monthly state general meeting on the 13th August, 2017 in Nnewi North L.G.A of Anambra State where the association deliberated on a number of issues affecting the profession and her members, as well as the current events in Anambra State and the Federation.
State of the Nation:
Members express their goodwill and support for the leadership of the Acting President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo (GCON), who from all indication has been working so hard to provide good governance to the people of Nigeria despite the many challenges and distractions the government is faced with. We also join millions of Nigerians to pray for the speedy recovery of President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR). The association thanks the Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano and his team for efforts to bring the dividends of democracy to the people of Anambra State. Members commend him for his response to the medical needs of the victims of the ugly incidence that happened in St. Philips Catholic Church, Ozubulu and also pray he puts all measures in place to prevent the reoccurrence of such barbaric incidence anymore in the State.
1. On the planned training of rural nurses and community health workers in Ultrasound Imaging by the Ministry of health in conjunction with our national executive council, we strongly register our total displeasure and rejection of such move. Anambra State ARN wonders why the Nigerian radiographers who are major stake holders in the business of offering proper medical imaging services to Nigerians, Ultrasound scan inclusive, currently with a pool of unemployed skilled radiographers were not rather trained and sent to cover these rural areas. Members totally distance themselves from whatever agreement that may have been entered by ARN National with the Ministry of Health on the issue and would rather suggest that intern radiographers and corps member radiographers should rather undergo such trainings and be posted to these rural health facilities to provide Ultrasound services to the people.
2. The members in session frown at the series of media battle that is on-going, between the leadership of ARN National and the Anambra State Chairman of ARN, Dr. Anthony Ugwu. We are particularly appalled by the content of the last letter to the Honorable Minister of Health, dated 2nd August, 2017 which was written and signed by the duo of the National Secretary and President of the ARN. We condemn the free use of derogatory words and insult on the person of Dr. A.C Ugwu, who no doubt is an asset to the profession, with many professional achievements to his credit and that of the profession at large, a pillar to the course of radiography training and advancement in Nigeria, and most importantly the indefatigable chairman of ARN Anambra State chapter. We wonder why the leadership of ARN is busying herself dissipating her energy in fighting the course of members of the Radiographers Registration of Nigeria, a federal government parastatal while her association suffers neglect and disunity. We unequivocally urge the leadership of ARN National to desist from such public show of bitterness and rather engage radiographers, Dr. A.C Ugwu inclusive, in meaningful dialogue to put an end to the myriad of problems bedeviling the Radiography profession in Nigeria.
3.We thank all well meaning radiographers who participated in the media enlightenment of the Nigerian public about the consequences of the passage of the obnoxious NCR Bill. We once again re-echo our stance on the NCR Bill, a total NO to such a defective bill which will end up causing more harm than good.
4. Finally we thank the initiators and members of the Center for Strategic Leadership and Youth Orientation (CENSTLEYO) Anambra State for their idea in driving for the setting up of a world class health care firm to carter for the health needs of the good people of Anambra State.
Signed:
