Communique Issued at the End of the National Executives Committee Meeting of NUNSA & NANNM

COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE MEETING OF NUNSA NATIONAL EXECUTIVES WITH NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA NURSES AND MIDWIVES (NANNM) HELD ON THURSDAY, APRIL 12, 2018 AT THE NANNM SECRETARIAT, AREA 10, BEHIND POST OFFICE, GARKI, ABUJA.

After introduction, the  executives appreciated NANNM for working tirelessly in making sure that nursing profession attends a greater height.
 
The following issues were discussed:
 
1. INTERNSHIP
Mr Manubia said, internship materials will be given to each registered nurse on induction day.
 
2. MENACE OF QUACKERY IN NURSING
Mrs Margaret talked about the activities carried out in Edo state to eradicate quackery, she also said they are not relenting that NANNM is working tirelessly to eradicate quackery in Nigeria.
 
3. PROPER PLACEMENT OF GRADUATE NURSES
Mr Adeniji said that we should start internship first, that it is a gradual process which they are all working on. He also said they have already written to the Honorable Minister of health to that effect.
 
4. NUNSA NATIONAL SECRETARIAT
Mrs Margaret said NANNM did not promise NUNSA a secretariat but we are permitted to use to the Secretariat anytime we want and if their program clashes with ours, there will be provision for another place for us to use, she said if Nunsa is given an office at the Secretariat, other bodies will also request for same.
 
5. NUNSA PROGRAMS
They promised to give us their full support in any of our programs.
 
6. CONSULTANCY IN NURSING
Mr Adeniji said they have written and are awaiting the response of the ministry of health and that once it is approved, nurses in the clinical areas will be selected for that. 
 
7. NUNSA DUES
They charged that every  school should endeavour to cooperate and pay their dues well before the national convention.
 
8. ACCOUNTABILITY
Mrs Margaret, Mr Adeniji and Mr Peter urged that NUNSA should restrict final year from taking political positions, 400l at most, to ensure adequate accountability.
 
9. MALPRESENTATION OF NURSES BY CLINIC MATTERS
Mrs Nnachi, Mrs Ekpebor said, they are working with Nollywood in Lagos to counter the issues with clinic matters, and that NANNM has started a program to show what Nursing is all about, the role of a nurse, attitude of nurses in the hospital and what nursing profession is all about, they said they are working with Nkem Owoh to produce a movie titled CARE GIVER.
