COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF A 2-DAY MEETING OF JOINT HEALTH SECTOR UNIONS (JOHESU)/ASSEMBLY OF HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATION (AHPA) WITH THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT HELD ON THURSDAY, 5TH - Friday 6th APRIL, 2018

The Joint Health Sector unions (JOHESU)/Assembly of Healthcare Professional Associations (AHPA) met with the Federal Government on Thursday 5th April, 2018, at the instance of the Hon. Minister of Labour and Employment to appraise the level of implementation of the Memorandum of Terms of Settlement executed on the 30th of September, 2017, between the leadership of JOHESU and relevant government stakeholders.

The meeting was held to brief JOHESU on level of implementation and compliance to the said Memorandum of Terms of Settlement and to avert another avoidable Nationwide Industrial action by our members.

After the meeting with the Federal Government, JOHESU and APHA wish to inform our members as follows:

1. JOHESU notes that the Federal Government is yet to approve or circularize the upward adjustment of CONHESS Salary Scale as contained in the memorandum of Terms of Settlement signed on 30th September, 2017; even though the five (5) weeks time-line has been grossly surpassed to six (6) months and still counting.

The Hon. Minister of Labour and Employment appealed that strike action should be used sparingly and as a last resort because of the sensitive professional calling of health workers which involve human lives.

3. The Federal Ministry of Health averred that the financial implication of CONHESS Adjustment had been computed but was not captured in 2018 budget, hence the problem of funding remains a major hindrance to its implementation.

4. The Hon. Minister of Labour and Employment directed a tripartite meeting involving the Federal Ministry of Health on one hand and the Federal Ministries of Budget and Finance on the other with him in attendance should be ccnvened to urgently address the issue of funding the CONHESs Salary Adjustment. medicalworldnigeria.com

JOHESU leadership at the meeting however impressed it on the Hon. Minister of Labour and Employment that the Federal Government has until Tuesday, April 17 2018, to do the needful and release the circular on CONHESS Adjustment and implement same if the government is really desirous of averting the looming industrial action.

6. JOHESU/AHPA wishes to appeal to our members to be calm and continue with the on going mobilization/sensitization and await further directives, taking into cognizance that expiration of our 30-working da, ultimatum is midnight of Tuesday, 17th April, 2018.
