Lagos State Government, Ministry of Health Notice of unwholesome Medical Practices

Posted on: Fri 29-09-2017

It has come to the attention of the Lagos State Gocernment that some health facilities engage in Assisted Reproductive Technology(ART) services e.g. In-Vitro Fertilization(IVF) and other advanced medical Procedures which should only be carried out by duly qualified and accredited specialist. Furthermore, unethical practices such as paid advertisements and promos are being conducted without due recourse to extant laws and guidelines. Reports of extortions, unorthodox practices and even incompetence abound and have now reached alarming and totally unacceptable levels.

All facilities illegally conducting any advaced medical procedures such as IVF, transplantation, gene and/or stem cell therapy without the duly registered expertise and accreditation to do same are hereby put on notice and should be ready to face the wrath of the law.

Facilities offering Assisted Reproductive Technology(ART) Services within the State should by 4:00pm on Monday 16th October 2017 ensure the commencement of their accreditation update with the Health Facility Monitoring & Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA) by providing the following details:-
                     - Government Structure for such services

                     - Details of the ART personnel available in your facility
                     - Details of Specific equipment available in your facility to carry out these services.

Members of the Public seeking advanced Medical procedures such as mentioned above are advised to be vigilant in order to avoid being swindled
