The Chief Medical Director,
LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, Oyo State. Sir,
RE: ILLEGAL TRANSFER OF RESIDENT DOCTORS FROM LAUTECH TEACHING HOSPITAL OGBOMOSO.
Compliments of the season
The attention of the National Association of Resident Doctors of Nigeria (NARD), an umbrella body constituting all Doctors below the rank of Consultant, has been drawn to the recent release of an internal memorandum issued by one A.M Ajiferuke and dated December 27, 2017 redeploying various cadres of staff including 55 Resident Doctors to the Hospital Management Board (HMB).
Sir, suffice it to note that Residency Training Program (RTP) which we believe you went through, is the only program designed to ensure training of specialist Medical Doctors and Research in our Tertiary Health Institutions and the founding fathers of Oyo State had this in mind when they set up LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Ogbomoso.
It is therefore an aberration and a deliberate plan to rob the good people of Oyo State of specialized healthcare when registrars and specialist registrars are being redeployed to a non-teaching facility amidst the growing tide of non-payment of their salaries.
This relocation is seen as an attempt at truncating or completely eliminating Residency Training in LAUTECH Ogbomoso. It looks like taking ten steps backward in an enlightened society as ours.
The National Association of Resident Doctors of Nigeria (NARD) being a stake holder in the healthcare of Nigerians and as the primary defender of the welfare of her members having followed events in the hospital hereby state unequivocally that:
i We are no longer pleased with the handling of welfare of our members and the deplorable state of infrastructure in LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Ogbomoso.
ii We totally reject and condemn in very strong terms this clandestine move to make a mockery of the Residency Training Program in LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Ogbomoso.
iii NARD is calling on the management of LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Ogbomoso to reverse all moves hitherto made and all provocative decisions reached ab-initio to illegally transfer Resident Doctors to other service points.
iv. The Association is giving the management of LAUTECH Ogbomoso twenty one (21) days from now to restore services in the Institution after which we will reconvene and re-access the situation.
v. We are still open to positive negotiation with the sole aim of restoring full services to the Institution. 7. Accept sir, the assurances of our warmest regards.
Yours faithfully,
Dr. Ugochukwu Chinaka President
