Pa Shonekan Maiden Public Health Lecture

In our bid to immortalize the first ever Medical Laboratory Scientist in the employment of the prestigious National Veterinary Research Institute, Vom in addition to being the first certified Medical Laboratory Scientist in Nigeria with RA 001, the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria, National Veterinary Research Institute, Vom Chapter has completed plans to host a maiden Public Health Lecture in honour of Late Pa Raphael A Shonekan.
 
The public health lecture christened “Pa Shonekan Annual Public Health” would henceforth be an annual event in the Chapter to be marked every November to commemorate his anniversary celebration. The maiden edition of the lecture is slated for 29th and 30th November, 2016 at the Main Auditorium, NVRI Vom. The aim of the event is to (1) Honour the fallen hero (ii) Create a platform for continuous professional development for health professionals on trending health issues (iii) serve as Public Health Awareness window to the general public
 
The maiden edition being planned is with the theme “ Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Diseases: A Case Study of Lassa Haemorrhagic Fever” will be handled by Prof Sunday Omilabu of the Department of Medical Microbiology, College of Medicine, University of Lagos. Sub theme lectures include (1) Leadership and Professional lessons from the life and time of Pa Shonekan to be delivered by Prof Eugene Ike of the Department of Medical Lab Science, University of Jos and (ii) Public Health Laboratories in Nigeria and the Challenge of Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Diseases to be delivered by Dr Laurena Okoro, Director, Laboratory Accreditation and Regulation, Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, Abuja.
 
To this end, our chapter invites you all to the event which promises to be an academic melting point and a mini AGM after the official one in Jalingo weeks back.
