• Seals 435 pharmacies, patent medicine stores in Ogun
As part of its effort to ensure rational distribution, dispensing of medicines that are safe, effective and of good quality, the Pharmacist Council of Nigeria (PCN) has intensified its drive to sanitise drug distribution chain in the country.
The Council, in a statement, said it has the full support of the Senate in actively fulfilling its mandate by carrying out enforcement activities across States including, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Ebonyi, Kwara, Benue, Delta, Oyo, Ekiti, Osun, Abuja, Nassarawa, Kaduna, Taraba and Cross River.

Charged with the responsibility of regulating, controlling the education, training and practice of pharmacy, the council last week visited Ogun state sealing a total of 435 premises comprising 44 pharmacies and 391 patent medicine shops. Director Inspection and Monitoring PCN, Mrs. Anthonia Aruya, said the team observed that so many premises commenced operations without fulfilling minimum requirements for registration while others failed to renew their license to operate such shops and dispensing ethical products without the supervision of a pharmacist amidst poor sanitary conditions. She added that some of these premises, store products in environments where the quality, safety and efficacy of pharmaceutical products cannot be guaranteed and as such exposes the public to serious danger.
Aruya revealed that others do not have the requisite knowledge or knowhow to handle the highly ethical drugs in their facilities and the exercise is part of activities by the PCN to reverse the ugly trend and improve on the level of Pharmaceutical services delivery to the good people of Ogun State. She added: “The teams visited various parts of Ogun State including Abeokuta, Sango, Ota, LafenwaItele, Mowe, Ibafo, Arepo, Berger, Ifo, Ilaro, Alagbonle, Akute, Pansheke, Naiwarudeen, Ijaiye, OkeEjigbo, IsaleAke, Ake, Itoku, IporoAke, Adatan, Car wash, OkeAregba, Kugba, Saje, Ilujin, IsaleIgbein, OnikoloboGbonogun, Oluwo, Mango.Adigbe.Opako, AlowonleAdigbe, Obada, Navy School, SarakiAdigbe, Abule Oba, Mango, ItaOshin, Oke Ota, Totora, Kuto, Adedotan, Randall, Olomore, Itokun, OdoOyan, Elega, Bode Olude, Idi Aba, EleweEron, Olokuta, Elite, Lantoro, Oke-Lantoro, OdoEran, Gbonogun, Camp, Oshile, Odeda, Ifon, Owode-Egba, Ofada, Ajuwan.Owners of unregistered facilities have been visiting the PCN, Ogun State office to regularise their registration status since the commencement of the exercise.
