Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, the Vice-Chancellor, University of Ilorin, says Unilorin is committed to producing high quality pharmacists for the country.

He stated this on Monday in Ilorin when he received the accreditation team from the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) in his office.

Ambali, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Sidikat Ijaiya, said that pharmacists must be well trained because of their crucial role in the nation’s healthcare delivery system.

He further said that the Faculty of Pharmacy of the institution was set to produce some of the best and well trained pharmacists in the world.

The vice-chancellor called on the PCN to help the faculty become the best in the country.

“Our Pharmacy programme is still in its infancy but we want to bring it to professional standard. We, therefore, welcome your observations and recommendations,” Ambali said.

Ambali commended the team for doing a thorough inspection of the Pharmacy department, saying that training and re-training was a cardinal point in the institution’s agenda.

Submitting its report, the PCN team leader, Prof. Isa Hussaini, said it interacted with the staff and students of the Faculty of Pharmacy and also undertook a thorough inspection of its facilities.

Hussaini commended the university on the quality and quantity of facilities at the faculty.

“I am highly impressed by the physical development and adequate equipment, which you do not find in most universities in Nigeria,” he said.

The team leader expressed delight at the cordial relationship existing between the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) and the Faculty of Pharmacy.

He urged the authorities of the institution to ensure that the faculty commences postgraduate programmes very soon.
