West African College of Surgeons October 2019 Primary, DA, Parts I/Membership & II (Final) / Fellowship Examinations

APPLICATION FOR ALL ASPECTS OF THE EXAMINATION IS ONLINE 

The October 2019 Fellowship examinations of the West African College of Surgeons (WACS), in the Faculties of Anaesthesia, Dental Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology (ORL), Radiology and Surgery, will hold from 9th October to 23rd October 2019

West African College of Surgeons

The Primary examinations will hold on Friday 11th October, 2019 in eight centres as follows:

  1. JAMB CBT Centre, JAMB Office, Ikolaba, Ibadan/ University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, Nigeria
  2. JAMB CBT Centre, Kogo, Bwari, Abuja/ University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH), Gwagwalada, Abuja, Nigeria
  3. Charles Easman building, College of Health Sciences, Korle Bu/ Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH), Accra, Ghana
  4. IMT Digital Learning Mgt Centre (DLMC) Opp. Fine & Applied Arts, Campus 3, Industrial Layout, Enugu/ National Orthopaedic Hospital (NOH) Main Hall, Enugu, Nigeria
  5. Inst. of Distance Learning (IDL) Computer Lab, Casley Hauford building (destiny hall) KNUST, Kumasi/ KomfoAnokye Teaching Hospital, Kumasi, Ghana
  6. Connaught Hospital, Freetown, Sierra Leone
  7. Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH) Banjul, The Gambia
  8. The Medical College Campus Auditorium near the St. Joseph's Catholic Hospital, Monrovia, Liberia

Primary examinations for all Faculties except Anaesthesia shall be by Computer Based Test(CBT). Further information on the venues of the CBT shall be announced later via www.wacscoac.org.

REQUIREMENTS FOR PRIMARY EXAMINATIONS

  1. MBBS/ BDS Certificate from a recognized University
  2. Full registration Certificate with Medical and Dental council of your country (Receipt of payment for full registration, provisional registration and annual practicing license are NOT acceptable).
  3. Certification page (to be downloaded from the website, filled and submitted online)
  4. Evidence of a change of name (where applicable)

REQUIREMENTS FOR DIPLOMA IN ANAESTHESIA

  1. Completion of the requisite twelve (12) months training in Anaesthesia in an accredited institution.
  2. Photocopy of APPROVED LOG BOOK / PORTFOLIO to be submitted to the College Secretariat.
  3. Certification page ( to be downloaded from the website, filled and submitted online)
  4. Evidence of a change of name (where applicable)

PART I/MEMBERSHIP & PART II EXAMINATION DATES AND CENTRES

Part 1/Membership & Part II examinations will hold from 9th October 2019 (Obstetrics & Gynaecology), 10th October 2019 Surgery Membership and 11th October, 2019 {Anaesthesia, Diploma in Anaesthesia (DA) while 14th October 2019 {Dental Surgery, Ophthalmology, ORL, Radiology and Surgery) in two Centres namely:

  1. University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan, Nigeria
  2. Korle-BuTeaching Hospital(KBTH) Accra, Ghana

Anaesthesia, Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Surgery Part I/Membership Multiple Choice examinations shall be by Computer Based Test (CBT)

REQUIREMENTS FOR PART MEMBERSHIP

  • Primary examination certificate of the West African College of Surgeons or its equivalent with exemption certificate
  • Satisfactorily completed appropriate years of postgraduate training as prescribed by the relevant Faculty in the institution(s) accredited for the purpose by the College.
  • Original Certificates of Training (COT) form with dates of commencement and completion of training to be uploaded on the website and the hard copy submitted to the College.
  • Original APPROVED LOG BOOK and a photocopy should be submitted to the College (for Surgery and O&G) first time applicants (Candidates should retrieve the original logbook a month to the examinations)
  • Photocopies of Logbook ( for all other Faculties)
  • Evidence of registration as a Surgeon in Training
  • Authentication form, to be downloaded from the website, fill it with proper endorsement from Fellows and Head of Department and upload it on the website
  • Certificates of attendance of relevant revision courses/updates
  • Evidence of change of name (where applicable)

REQUIREMENTS FOR PART II EXAMINATIONS

  1. Part I certificate of the West African College of Surgeons or its equivalent.
  2. Satisfactorily completed appropriate years of postgraduate training and worked in their specialties for at least two years in the institution(s) accredited for the purpose by the College.
  3. Original Certificates of Training (COT) form with dates of commencement and completion of training to be uploaded on the website and the hard copy submitted to the College.
  4. Original APPROVED LOG BOOK and a photocopy should be submitted to the College (for Surgery and O&G) first time applicants (Candidates should retrieve the original logbook a month to the examinations)
  5. Photocopies of Logbook (for all other Faculties)
  6. Certificates of Manuscript Writing Workshop and Health Management and Ethics workshop
  7. Authentication form, to be downloaded from the website, fill it with proper endorsement from Fellows and Head of Department and upload it on the website
  8. Certificates of attendance of relevant revision courses/updates
  9. Evidence of a change of name (where applicable)
  10. Three copies of approved proposals and dissertations

EXAMINATION FEES

  1. Primary examination                   -  N55,500
  2. Diploma in Anaesthesia(DA)       - N110,000
  3. Part I/Membership examination - N160,000
  4. Part II (Final) examination          -  N200,000

CLOSING DATE

  1. Submission of completed application form closes on 2nd August, 2019.
  2. O&G candidates that want to sit for April 2020 Part II examinations are to submit dissertations and casebooks latest on Friday, 27th September 2019.

MODE OF PAYMENT

Payment for all aspects of the examinations should be made online. No payment Teller shall be accepted by the College. Any candidate who refuses to follow this directive shall be disqualified and examinations fees forfeited.

Deferment of examination after submission of application or refund of examination fees after payment is NOT acceptable.

GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Candidates are advised to carefully populate appropriate fields meant for surname and other names, any error that arises from this may lead to candidates' disqualification.
  • Candidates should ensure that the same name is used when making offline payment and registration for the examination, any disparity between name for offline payment and the one for online registration would lead to candidates' disqualification.
  • It is mandatory that candidates should check the College website for the approved list of eligible candidates a month to the examinations.
  • The College reserves the right to change examinations venue at any time it deems fit.
