The Health & Managed Care Association of Nigeria (HMCAN) was inaugurated  in March 1998. HMCAN is the umbrella body of Health Maintenance Organisations (HMOs licensed operators of the National Health Insurance Scheme. Since inception, no less than distinguished professionals like Professor A.B Odutola and Dr.Ebun Sonaiya have served the association at various times as Chairmen.

 

Currently, the Chairman of the Association is Dr.Kolawole Owoka. The association which started with eight member - HMOs has risen to twenty seven as at September 2010, with various stages involved in joining the Association.

 

As a result of the emerging relevance of the Association, HMCAN was represented at the public hearing on the NHIS by the House of Representatives’ Committee on Health on February 24, 2000. Our members also served in various committees that led to the launching of the National Health Insurance Scheme in 2005 by His Excellency, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo
