Job Summary

  • We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced professional to serve as the Head of Department (HOD), Midwifery.
  • The successful candidate will provide academic leadership, administrative oversight, and strategic direction for the Midwifery Department, ensuring excellence in teaching, clinical training, research, and professional practice in line with regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership and coordination of the Midwifery Department.
  • Oversee curriculum planning, implementation, and continuous improvement in compliance with regulatory bodies such as the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).
  • Supervise academic and clinical staff, ensuring high standards of teaching and mentorship.
  • Coordinate student clinical postings, assessments, and evaluations.
  • Ensure accreditation standards are met and maintained.
  • Develop departmental policies, academic schedules, and operational plans.
  • Promote research, innovation, and evidence-based practice within the department.
  • Monitor student performance and implement strategies to improve academic outcomes.
  • Manage departmental budget and resources effectively.
  • Foster partnerships with clinical training facilities and relevant stakeholders.
  • Represent the department at institutional and external meetings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or Midwifery (mandatory).
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing / Midwifery or related field (required).
  • Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife (RN/RM) with a valid practicing license.
  • Minimum of 7 – 10 years post-qualification experience, with at least 3–5 years in an academic or leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of Nursing and Midwifery Council regulations and accreditation standards.
  • Proven leadership, administrative, and people management skills.
  • Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
  • Proficiency in academic planning and curriculum development.
