NUAHP/KGH/NP/GS/Vol.1/ 01                               7th July, 2020

His Excellency,

Governor Yahaya Bello,

Executive Governor of Kogi State.

Luggard House,

Lokoja, Kogi Sate.

Your Excellency Sir,

PROTEST LETTER ON THE ATTACK BY HOODLUMS ON HEALTH WORKERS AT FEDERAL MEDICAL CENTRE, LOKOJA

Fraternal and solidarity greetings to Your Excellency from the National Leadership and esteemed members of the Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals nationwide.

The Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP) formerly known as Nigerian Union of Pharmacists, Medical Technologists and Professions Allied to Medicine (NUPMPTAM) was established in1978 during trade unions restructuring in Nigeria. Its certificate of registration was issued on the 15th of August, 1984 by the Registrar of Trade Unions at the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment. The union is made up of professionals in the health sector such as: Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory Science, Physiotherapy, Radiography, Dietetics, Dental Technology Occupational Therapy, Health Information Management, Nutrition, Social Work, Speech Therapy, Dental Therapy, Optometry, Clinical Psychology, Prosthetics/Orthotics, Medical Physics, Audiology, EEG and ECG Specialists.

The National Leadership of our union hereby draws the attention of Your Excellency to the unwarranted attacks on our members and other health workers including destructions of health facilities at the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja by disgruntled elements suspected to be political thugs on July 1, 2020.

As the Chief Security Officer of Kogi State, our union implores Your Excellency to use the appropriate security organ of government to fish out the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

We hope that justice will be done and health workers (especially our members in FMC Lokoja) in Kogi State are allowed to carry out their legitimate duties even as they battle the dreaded corona virus on the frontlines and attend to other public health emergencies and need of the good people of the state.

Finally, we urge Your Excellency to give necessary support to all health workers in the state especially in the war against COVID-19 Pandemic which has become a health emergency reality globally. State health workers must be given Personal Protective Equipment’s as they discharge their duties both on the frontlines and other health facilities. Establishment of isolation and testing centres by the state government and arrangement on how citizens would be tested is imperative to contain the spread of the coronal virus.

Our members have been directed to remain calm as we expect your Excellency to take positive steps in addressing the issues of concern raised in this write up.

Accept our high esteemed regards.

Yours in service,

Comrade (Dr.) O.C Ogbonna               Comrade Martin Adekunle Egbanubi

National President                                            General Secretary

CC: Chairman, NUAHP-FMC Lokoja
