ACPNIn order to properly regulate pharmacy practice, the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN) has reminded the Federal Government of the need to appoint the director general of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) from among pharmacists for greater efficiency.

Also, National Chairman of ACPN, Dr. Albert Kelong Alkali who made the call has urged the Federal Government to constitute the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) to enable it carry out its constitutional/statutory responsibilities efficiently. He spoke while briefing the media on the forthcoming National Conference of the ACPN tagged ‘Coal City 2016’ which will hold between May 29 to June 3, 2016 at the Nike Lake Resort Enugu in Enugu State.

He added that the theme of this year’s conference is “Manpower Development in Community Pharmacy – Adopting Global Best Practices”. Speaking, Alkali said task before the NAFDAC leadership is huge and reasoned that the government could not afford to appoint a non-pharmacist.

He noted that the immediate past director general of the Agency, Dr. Paul Orhii is not a pharmacist, while lamenting his poor performance in the sector especially when compared with the laudable roles played by the late Prof. Dora Akunyili, a pharmacist and predecessor of Orhii.
