Incident At Eko Hospitals

Posted on: Thu 23-04-2015

We have followed with concern reports making rounds in the electronic, print and social media on the unfortunate and tragic loss of 36 years old Mrs. Dolapo
Adesanya after child birth while under the care of EKO Hospital on Sunday, April 05, 2015.The loss of a woman at childbirth is sad and all in the medical profession are working to make sure it never happens.

First our heartfelt condolences to her immediate and extended family members. We are writing this not in defense of Eko Hospital but not in support of media
condemnation either. A lot of comments in the media may have been based on emotions leading to misinformation.

It is time this media comments seized.

If anyone particularly relation of a loved one died in a hospital and feels this may have been due to negligence there are steps that can be taken.
However, after such unfortunate rare occasions like this it may be better to concentrate on the loss in order that the deceased can rest in peace.

Without loosing sight of the pains of the family members we gently suggest that the press allow the much needed privacy to grief and in deference to the deceased.

It must be remembered that comments circulating in the media are not beneficial to all stakeholders - family of the deceased, other patients receiving treatment, the image of the hospital and integrity of medical professionals in general. If continued, distrust, apprehension and loss ot confidence that follow can only further damage that mutual respect between patients and medical professionals.

Medical professionals are committed to saving lives, and will always do the very best they can to prevent a recurrence.

To the family of Mrs. Adesanya once more, heartfelt condolences.
