Dr Faith Diorgu is a senior lecturer and postgraduate midwifery degree program coordinator in the University of Port Harcourt She is the current Head of the Department of Nursing Science, University of Port, on a second tenure. She is a visiting lecturer in other universities for midwifery and developmental psychology courses. She holds a Bachelor degree in Nursing Science from the University' of Ibadan, Masters and doctorate degrees in Educational Psychology from the University of Port Harcourt Again, a second Masters and Doctor of Philosiophy (PhD) degrees in Midwifery from University of Nottingham and University of Chester Ohe United Kingdom. She is Nigeria's first Doctorate degree holder in Midwifery awarded to her by the University of Chester. United Kingdom. https://www.chester.ac.uk/node/41242. She is the Inventor of "F. Birthing Chair” a device to support women birth in upright position during childbirth in Africa. The device is registered with Nigeria Copyright Commission and is with Patent certificate by National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP).

Dr Faith is a serving Hall Warden and member in other committees in the university. She has also served as a member of the Board of the Nursing & Midwifery Council of Nigeria and some committees in the council. She is External Examiner for undergraduate and postgraduate MCH and Midwifery programmes, in various universities in Nigeria and two universities outside Nigeria She is one of the current serving patroness of Nigerian Universities' Nursing Students Association (NUNSA).

Dr Faith is interested in a wide concern of midwifery and midwifery education as: raising the profile of midwifery practice and research, maternal health and well-being: normal birth, being active in 10w! and maintaining perineal integrity and perineal care during childbirth. The several academic development projects and research studies in the UK, was with the overall aim to improve the care and services for women and their families. Her important work is in the area of evidence based and global best practices in childbirth in Nigeria and Africa. This is vital in the promotion of women's autonomy and well-being during the birthing process. This is the factor that led to her invention of a birthing chair to facilitate birth in upright position.

With approval and support from the World Bank, Africa Centre of Excellence in Public Health and Toxicological Research at the University of Port Harcourt (ACE-PUTOR) mounted the first Postgraduate Midwifery education in Nigeria under the "ACE Impact 3 Project." This was achieved through her and her team’s successful proposal to the World Bank. Dr Faith is the programme coordinator and the key driver of the postgraduate midwifery education in the ACE-PUTOR, University of Port Harcourt. ACE-PUTOR has been able to attract National (Nigerian students) and Regional (Students from other African countries) students to the Midwifery programme. The programme currently has students from Uganda, Ethopia, Ghana and Cameroon.

Dr. Faith is a reviewer for over six journals including for International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) as an abstract reviewer for conferences. She has served on the Editorial Board of five International Journals; and four local journals. Participated in the review of the current edition of TEN TEACHERS Obstetrics and TEN TEACHERS Gynecology books. Has supervised over 88 undergraduate students’ projects, and about 25 MSc in midwifery students’ projects and 6 PhD studentship research projects. She has many publications to her credit, majority of which are research-based, and has attended many local, national and international conferences and presented papers in most of them. She has an internationally published e-book of about 300 pages, holding sales in many foreign bookstores including Amazon. She engages in collaboration research with international counterparts in Canada, UK, USA and Australia.

She has contributed to the upward development of Department of Nursing University of Port Harcourt and contributed in putting University of Port Harcourt in global map. Dr. Faith has won seven awards (professional and social) including 2018 University of Nottingham Alumni Laureate. Her hobbies include travelling, listening of music, keeping pets and reading. Dr. Faith is happily married to Dr. A. V. Diorgu, a senior citizen who retired from the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, Port Harcourt. She has three lovely children, two are medical doctors and the last a medical student in the United State of America.
