The Community Health Practitioners Registration Board of Nigeria is a statutory regulatory Board under the Federal Ministry of Health. It was established by Decree Number 61 of 1992, now CAP C 19, Laws ofthe Federation of Nigeria, 2004. 

 

In pursuance of its statutory obligations and functions as clearly stated in Part 1, Section 1 a of the Community Health Practitioners (Registration, etc) Act, the Board is charged with the duty of "determining what standards of knowledge and skills are to be attained by persons seeking to become members of the profession of Community Health and improving those standards from time to time as circumstances may permit." So far, about 178, 215 Practitioners made up of Community Health Officers (CHOs), Community Health Extension Workers (CHEWs) and Junior Community Health Extension Workers (JCHEWs), have been trained since 1979.
